Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Bharat BoudhIKS Examination 2026 — pattern, books, awards and guidelines

Eligibility

Undergraduate and postgraduate students from recognised institutions may appear. Registration is through the institution. Candidates must have a valid ID (college ID, driving licence or government ID), an email address and a mobile number.

Duration: 2 hours. Mode: Offline (OMR sheet + written booklet). Medium: English or Hindi.

Part I: Multiple choice questions (MCQs)

A single MCQ booklet with two parts. Part I has three sections. Opt for one section based on your discipline.

  • 80 MCQs in total — 60 from your chosen discipline and 20 from the other disciplines.
  • Section A — Science: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics.
  • Section B — Social Sciences: History, Economics, Political Science.
  • Section C — Arts: Literature, Fine Arts, Humanities.

Attempt 60 MCQs from your chosen discipline and 20 MCQs from the other disciplines. Mark answers on the OMR sheet.

Part II: Descriptive question

  • One question of 20 marks, in a minimum of 250 words, written in the booklet.
  • Marking rubric: Content quality 10 marks; Analysis and depth 6 marks; Language and presentation 4 marks.

Syllabus and books

Bharat BoudhIKS has published 21 books, seven per discipline. These volumes form the syllabus. A candidate studies the seven books of the chosen discipline, or the equivalent content on this website.

Cost of the 21-volume set (English or Hindi): MRP ₹4,500; VBUSS discount price ₹2,500. Each registered institute receives one set free of charge.

Exam conduct

  • Question paper prepared by a panel of IKS experts.
  • MCQs: automatic or manual OMR evaluation. Descriptive: marking rubric as above.
  • Examination centres: all participating institutes and/or as managed by VBUSS State Units.
  • State VBUSS members sign booklets during the examination.

Evaluation and results

  • Answer keys are sent to centres and state units the next day after the examination.
  • Evaluation is conducted by the centre in coordination with State VBUSS.
  • The award list is submitted to VBUSS Delhi.
  • Results are declared within 20 days of the examination (published online and by email).

Awards and prizes

  • First prize: ₹1,00,000
  • Second prize: ₹50,000
  • Third prize: ₹25,000
  • Fourth prize: ₹2,500
  • Participation certificate: every candidate, with All India Rank (AIR).
  • Merit certificate: top 10% of performers.
  • Appreciation shield: for institutions with the highest participation.
  • Top rankers are invited to a fully sponsored National BKS Conclave in New Delhi (dates notified on the website).

Guidelines

Registration and preparation

  1. Register via your institution before the deadline.
  2. Verify admit card details (roll number, centre, timing).
  3. Carry a valid ID and admit card on exam day.
  4. Study from VBUSS-recommended IKS books.

Exam day

  • Report 45 minutes early.
  • Carry a blue or black pen, admit card and photo ID.
  • No mobile phones or electronic devices.
  • Attempt MCQs first, then the descriptive section.
  • Write the descriptive answer clearly (introduction, points, conclusion).

Results and certification

  • Check results on the website using roll number and date of birth.
  • Download the e-certificate (participation or merit).
  • National rankers are informed by email or phone for awards.
